Validation of the Snap St for Rapid Screening for Β-lactam Antibiotics in Milk

چکیده
The SNAP was modified to SNAP ST (Idexx Laboratories Inc., Westbrook, ME), a new 7-8 minute test which no longer requires the use of an incubator. This new test was validated at ILVO-T&V according to Commission Decision 2002/657/EC and the CRL Guidelines for the Validation of Screening Methods (Anon., 2010). The SNAP ST is very specific as an interference was only caused by clavulanic acid, a βlactamase inhibitor. The repeatability of the reader and the test were very good. The SNAP ST detects all β-lactams with a MRL in milk at their respective MRL except for desacetylcephapirin and cefalexin. The test is robust for changes in the test protocol or differences in milk composition. Also goats’, ewes’ and mares’ milk could be screened by SNAP ST. The SNAP ST is a fast, simple and very reliable test for the screening of tanker milk on the presence of β-lactam residues. Introduction The SNAP β-Lactam ST is a competitive receptor test for the rapid detection of residues of β-lactams (penicillins and cefalosporins) in raw milk. The test is an improvement of the SNAP β-Lactam test, with an incubation at ambient temperature (15-30°C) so an incubator is no longer needed. The time to result for the assay is approximately 7 minutes (~45 seconds of milk flow time and 6 minutes of incubation at ambient temperature to allow for color development). A validation study was performed at ILVO-T&V according to Commission Decision 2002/657/EC and to the guidelines for the validation of screening methods for residues of veterinary medicines (Anon., 2010). Beta lactam antibiotics residues in cow's milk: comparison of efficacy of three screening tests used in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Beta lactam antibiotics are widely used in therapy of cattle, particularly for the treatment of mastitis. Over 95% of residue testing in dairies in Bosnia and Herzegovina is for Beta lactams. The aim of this paper is to compare the efficacy of three most common screening tests for Beta lactam residues in cow's milk in our country. The tests used in the study are SNAP β Lactam test (Idexx), Ros...
متن کاملAntibiotic residues and aflatoxin M1 contamination in milk powder used in Tehran dairy factories, Iran
BACKGROUND: The presence of aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) andantibiotic residues in milk and milk products is a public healthconcern. Milk and milk powder have the potential forintroducing AFM1 and antibiotic into human diet. In recentyears, milk powder has been used on a large scale in dairyfactories. Consequently, antibiotic residues and aflatoxincontamination control in these products has gained impor...
متن کاملSPR Biosensor Analysis of -Lactam Antibiotics in Milk Development and use of assays based on a -lactam receptor protein
The aim of this study was to investigate the applicability of an SPR biosensor in combination with a -lactam receptor protein for generic detection of -lactam antibiotics in milk. β-Lactam antibiotics constitute the group of antimicrobials most commonly used for treatment of bacterial infections in dairy cows. Consequently, they are also the most common type of drug residue found in milk and, a...
متن کاملValidation of the βeta-s.t.a.r. 1 + 1 for rapid screening of residues of β-lactam antibiotics in milk
The 2-min protocol (1 + 1) for the betaeta-s.t.a.r. (manufactured by Neogen Corporation, Lansing, MI, USA) was validated at the Technology and Food Science Unit of the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research according to Commission Decision 2002/657/EC. The test was very selective for the group of beta-lactam compounds: the only interference found was by clavulanic acid at 2500 microg...
متن کاملConfirmatory test results on milk from commercial sources that tested positive by beta-lactam antibiotics screening tests.
Fifty-four milk samples from commercial sources that tested positive for beta-lactam antibiotics were analyzed by a multiresidue liquid chromatographic (LC) procedure based on LC fractionation. Penicillin G and cephapirin were the beta-lactam antibiotics found most frequently. Some samples did not contain detectable beta-lactam antibiotics. In a few, the presence of a beta-lactam antibiotic was...
